Fort Smith Museum of History Birthday Celebration For Alphonso Trent

Celebrate the birthday of Fort Smith native and well-known jazz musician, Alphonso Trent. October 24 at 12:00 noon, enjoy for a free lunch hour jazz concert at the Fort Smith Museum of History. Hosted by the Lincoln Echo, the concert features Rev. Ronald D. Meyers, with Ron and Lanita Chastain. The concert is free and open to all. Donations are appreciated.

Begin the evening with Halloween treats, drinks and ghost stories along with a peek at haunted areas of the Fort Smith Museum of History. Judge and Mrs. Isaac Parker, portrayed by Floyd and Sue Robison, narrate the tour, which begins at the Fort Smith Museum of History on October 18, 25, 26 and Halloween. Two tours are offered each night at 5:30 p.m./ and 7:30 p.m.

“Clayton Conversations” with Architect John Mott

Down to the Hand-Forged Square Nails: The Clayton House Restoration. Nearly 40 years since the completion of the herculean project of restoring the circa 1882 Clayton House, architect John Mott returns to his hometown to share the details and photos. Mott is now vice president and director of architecture and historic preservation at John Milner Associates of Alexandria, VA. He returns for Razorback games, and he offers this program regarding the magnificent, 7-year labor of love. The Clayton House was the first structure in Fort Smith to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places after being saved from the wrecking ball by Mrs. Julia Yadon in 1969. Limited seating - reservations encouraged.
